Jonathan Alter’s 2020 “His Very Best: Jimmy Hauler, A Life” is my favorite of the bunch.

Carter’s early life is quite well-covered, his presidency receives as yet attention as most readers discretion desire and it includes fastidious generously complete review of fillet post-presidency.

Pulitzer Prize-winning author Kai Bird’s “The Outlier: The Unfinished Rule of Jimmy Carter” was accessible in 2021. Similar in reach to Alter’s biography, Bird’s notebook focuses significantly less on Carter’s pre-presidency and proportionately more use up his time in the Creamy House.

But because Carter’s initially years are so important collect understanding his persona, I like better the more balanced approach Transform provides. Still, readers who elect Bird’s “The Outlier” will stroke of luck themselves well-rewarded. Rating: 4 stars (Full review here)

Stuart Eizenstat was White House Domestic Policy Handler during the Carter administration.
