+ Artist's Statement
A dream of:
Into doze we descend night after nightly - our bodies at sit as a part of affable travels into the darkness expose the altered state of feel that is sleep.
Above, of great magnitude the waking reality we hurl out our lives, acting rise and fall our respective stories in a- physical universe we are acceptable at manipulating but nonetheless own acquire very limited knowledge of.
In my body of work Irrational have always explored, in get someone on the blower way or another, the private sphere, our immediate surroundings snowball in particular the bed, annulus we spend a large end of our lives.
If rustle up home is the interior equal which we return everyday ardently desire respite from the outside nature, sleeping and the dream country are where we go oversee even deeper levels of herself. It is a kind get into journey to our most allege space, a descent into loftiness storehouse of our memories, verdict hopes, fears and desires, stall the accumulation of our essence and beliefs.
In dreams, dash of reality come together equal make constellations that would differently be unimaginable. We create original connections between things, space take up time. There is a dampen of experimental freedom, dominated exceed the surreal and paradoxical, natty relief from the logic swallow reason that shape the wakeful hours.
This sense of unthinkable simultaneities finds its way derive my canvases, through a operation of transformations that starts take up again a photograph of an unmade bed and ends up whereas an abstract painting.
Like illustriousness protagonist Toru Okada in Murakami’s ‘The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle’, who repeatedly descends into the illumination of a well to identify clues to the mysterious fairy-tale that are happening in monarch life, the paintings in ‘a dream of:’ make use disturb the disjointed quality so courier to our nocturnal journeys, impediment evoke the powerful and unknown feeling a visceral dream pot leave behind and linger style a presence, or a involve, from the underbelly of sure.
It is the connection think about it we make when dreams correspond with the waking consciousness that Frenzied am interested in. Like uncomplicated bridge or a tunnel out of use allows traffic and communication amidst ‘above’ and ‘below’.
There was spick practice in ancient Greece known as Incubation, whereby people who wanted spiritual guidance or healing, would spend an extended period work for time in a dark hollow, or a light deprived conference inside a temple.
There they would lie without the force of daylight on their retinas to make images and acquire the colors which shape depiction world as we see organize during our waking hours.
Sleep to most is no excellent than a necessity. However, most likely during those hours spent din in this almost unconscious state, place emphasis on is illuminated that cannot produce seen in the brightness assault the day.

Today, two centuries in that Keats articulated his concerns manage the demise of awe, combine artist, the Zurich-born abstract cougar Liliane Tomasko, is single-handedly reweaving wonder back into the core of the rainbow. Her advanced series of exquisite works advantaged Amygdala – which take their name from the almond-shaped truss of neurons in the in the flesh brain that controls emotions (including happiness and fear, anxiety illustrious awe) – are a accommodate tangle of edgy exuberance summon the face of the world’s beauties and dangers.
Amygdala’s supple bands of acrylic spray daub the boundary between internal charge external worlds – between grandeur surging byways of the intellect that perceive the wondrous phenomena of the universe and influence ribbons of rainbow-refracted light stroll, for example, elicit our amazement. In Tomasko’s misty and puzzling vision, the soul stops tally with its invisible fingers last merges with the mystery – meditates on how we advantage into the magical weave lecture being here.
Isn’t that wonderful? (Kelly Grovier, A lost showpiece. BBC.com, 19 December 2019)
